journey over thousands of miles to an unknown land full of
promise to start a new life, while leaving behind her home &

her family & friends by exchanging quilt blocks & letters with
her mother Abbie, which helps to ease the loneliness of being so

Stitches on the Oregon Trail
Stitches on the Oregon Trail - a quilters journal #3 follows
Lily's niece Phoebe & her husband Herschel as they travel the
Oregon Trail from Kansas to the Pacific Coast to continue their
family's quest for land & a better life. Lily's sage advice to
her niece was to write in her journal & begin a quilt as therapy
on the long trip. Our third chapter-a-month quilt & journal in
the Quilters Journal series keeps us in touch with their joys &
struggles on the journey west. Select image or title for

Piecing the Trail
to Kansas
KTQ100 - $36 |
Piecing the Trail to Kansas
Piecing the Trail to Kansas - a quilters journal #1 is the
first in a new series of quilt patterns or books created from my
interest in antique quilts & the stories of the women who made
them. Conceived as a block-of-the-month (or chapter-a-month)
quilt program, the story is about life on the Kansas prairie as
seen through the eyes of a quilter, Lily Marie Hutchins. We
introduce Lily & her family as they follow the wagon trains west
from their home in Kentucky to homestead the wild prairie in the
Kansas Territory during the 1850's.
